Wellness  Program

2007 Senior Games Wellness Fair

The CMSG Wellness Program is a collection of services and programs in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area for senior adults which serve to improve and promote healthy living.  The CMSG Wellness Program includes the following, each of which is described below:

  • Fitness Classes - strength training and general fitness classes at area recreation centers 
  • "Growing Stronger" - a home based strength training program     
  • Senior Games Wellness Fair     
  • Social Programs

FITNESS CLASSES

Fitness Classes taught by professional fitness instructors are offered weekly at the following Recreation Centers.  Note that the recreation membership fee is reduced for seniors attending these classes.  Call these centers for more information:

"GROWING STRONGER"
STRENGTH TRAINING FOR OLDER ADULTS


This is a program developed by Tuffs University and the Center for Disease Control.  The program can be done at home.  Participants will receive a self guided booklet to record goals and daily progress.  Orientation to the program and booklets may be obtained through one of the senior fitness classes and other coordinating organizations.  This program is aimed at keeping your current level of mobility and independence.  If your group is interested in having someone introduce the program please call the CMSG Hotline: 704-332-4020.



EDUCATION

The first ever Charlotte Mecklenburg Senior Wellness Fair was held in March 2005 at the campus of University of North Carolina-Charlotte.   Growing on the success of our latest health fair we are offering 2 more health fairs in the coming year.  The dates and locations of these fairs will be posted on the Upcoming Events page when they are available.  If you are intersted in becoming a vendor please call the CMSG Hotline at: 704-332-4020.



SOCIAL EVENTS

Various social events occur throughout the year in coordination with our programs.  A few of these include: The Breakfast of Champions, Opening Ceremonies and our Talent Show.  Check the Upcoming Events page when the dates become available.
